On the occasion of Mother's Day 2026, on May 8, 2026, the Indian Institute of Management Mumbai (IIM Mumbai) announced the launch of the 'Tejasvini Initiative' (तेजस्विनी पहल), a comprehensive institutional programme aimed at advancing women's leadership, entrepreneurship, policy research, inclusion, and educational access.

Launched on the occasion of Mother's Day, the initiative recognises the role of women as the first educators, institution-builders, and changemakers in society, while reinforcing the importance of creating leadership and learning ecosystems that support women across sectors and communities.

IIM Mumbai said the initiative reflects its commitment to creating long-term, structured opportunities for women through management education, innovation, and institution-led impact. The five dimensions of the 'Tejasvini Initiative' include Scholarships for girl students, the Tejasvini Rashtriya Samman, The Tejasvini Sansthan Puraskar, Institutional governance and DEI, and National awards for women leaders.

Speaking on the launch, Prof. Manoj Kumar Tiwari, Director, IIM Mumbai said, "On Mother's Day, IIM Mumbai is proud to launch 'Tejasvini Initiative'as a meaningful institutional initiative dedicated to strengthening women-led leadership, innovation, and inclusion. Mothers are the first teachers, mentors, and builders of society, and this initiative is our commitment towards creating platforms that support women through education, entrepreneurship, policy engagement, and leadership development."

Tulsidas, in the Ramcharitmanas, described women as "Jagat Janani Daminī Duti Gata, the Mother of the Universe, whose very being is radiant like lightning. That radiance, that luminous brilliance, is not merely a metaphor but a profound description of reality. Women of this nation have always embodied this light and inner strength. The 'Tejasvini Initiative' reflects IIM Mumbai's firm commitment to building institutional structures worthy of that brilliance.

The five dimensions of the Tejasvini Initiative include leadership development and executive education for women professionals and aspiring leaders, focused on strategic leadership, entrepreneurship, managerial capability, financial literacy, and digital inclusion. The initiative also strengthens research and policy frameworks through the Centre for Policy and Governance, promoting women-led growth and inclusive development with policy papers and sectoral studies.

Under entrepreneurship and incubation support, IIM Mumbai's Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE) will promote women-led startups and enterprise creation across urban and rural India. The initiative further reinforces institutional governance and DEI through a more inclusive, respectful, and supportive ecosystem.

It also introduces merit-cum-need scholarships for girl students to enhance participation in management education and leadership. Additionally, two national recognitions have been announced — the Tejasvini Rashtriya Samman for outstanding women leaders across sectors, and the Tejasvini Sansthan Puraskar to honour contributions of women faculty, officers, and staff within IIM Mumbai.
