The two-day 'Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference - South Gujarat', organised at Auro University in Surat, concluded today. During this conference, 2,792 MOUs worth ₹3,53,306 crore were signed.
Speaking at the Valedictory session, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Chemicals and Fertilisers, Shri J.P. Nadda, stated that the foundation laid for the development of South Gujarat through this conference has prepared the region to take a major economic leap in the coming times. Commending Gujarat's economic strength, Shri Nadda added that Gujarat contributes 8% to the country's total GDP. It accounts for 17% of manufacturing output, 27% of merchandise exports, and 40% of the country's total cargo handling. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gujarat has not only made economic progress but has also established itself as a competitive and connected global economic engine through its own efforts.
Giving an example of how policymakers can bring about major changes through positive policies, he said that previously there was a distance between industrialists and the government. However, in 2003, the then Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Narendra Modi, started 'Vibrant Gujarat' and developed a culture of dialogue and cooperation with industrialists, which has today become an exemplary model for other states in the country. Due to such efforts, India has become the most reliable destination for investment in the world today.
Providing an overview of South Gujarat's sectoral strength, Shri Nadda said that from Surat's diamond and textile industries to the chemical and fertiliser industries of Bharuch-Dahej-Ankleshwar, these sectors have become global hubs. Now, by linking the garmenting industry with textiles and tribal areas, new gateways for development are being opened, which will be considered a major victory for the local region and the state government.
Emphasising the need to become self-reliant and increase manufacturing capacity during times of global uncertainties, Shri Nadda stated that the way Gujarat is moving forward through projects like the Statue of Unity, GIFT City, and High-Speed Rail by turning disasters into opportunities will be fundamental in realising the resolve of a 'Developed India'. He also extended his congratulations to the state government for organising the VGRC.
